April 7 Election for Mayor
As your Mayor for the past four years, people from every neighborhood tell me they really like Urbana's progress. To keep Urbana moving forward I need your vote on April 7. Three other candidates for mayor are on the ballot.
Open, Honest Government
Four years ago I promised to "create an atmosphere of respect for people and for the democratic process."
I have kept my word by creating a positive new era in City Hall. As the new Mayor in 2005, I found an atmosphere of bullying and intimidation by the former administration toward the city council and city employees, especially those in the Fire Department. I put an end to it.
We now have a good working relationship between the Mayor and the City Council and with city employees. We made an historic breakthrough in labor negotiations by reaching agreement with the Firefighters union before the old contract expired in 2007. This saved taxpayers $100,000 in attorney fees and staff time compared with the old way of dragging out negotiations eight months or more.
The new era of working together has helped Urbana blossom. Let's keep this positive energy working for all of us.
Urbana is doing well on economic development, public safety, taxes, sustainability and fiscal responsibility. If you have any questions, concerns or ideas for improving Urbana, please call my campaign office: 328-2071, or e-mail me: .
It has been a privilege for me to serve as your mayor. I would very much appreciate your vote April 7.
